PROS
- Highly Motivating – You’ll usually lose quite a lot of weight pretty quicky;
- No need to cut out foods that you’re used to. Foods like meat, cheese, cream & other high fat foods are allowed;
- As so many foods are allowed, the risk of cheating while on the diet is lower; &
- Short term studies have shown that risk of heart disease & high cholesterol have fallen while losing weight.
CONS
- Health Risks – Even though short term studies prove otherwise, a high fat diet doesn’t make much sense in the long term;
- Reports showing that some dieters suffer from constipation, general weakness, rashes, muscle cramps & bad breath;
- Difficult to maintain in the long run? May sound good in the beginning but how long can you just eat the burger without the buns and a steak without the potato?;
- May be an expensive diet to follow because of the foods allowed on the diet; &
- Initial weight loss may be owing to reduction in stored glycogen & water loss and not fat loss.
